Nobuhiro “Nob” Seki is a serial entrepreneur specializing in delivering the latest technologies to people such as the Internet, the social media and the Internet of things (IoT). Nob is based in Japan and New York City with friends in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2017, he joined the board for Darma Tech Labs (aka Makers Boot Camp) to accelerate transformation of manufacturing industries from mass production to high-variety, low-volume production oriented. In 2015, Nob co-founded FabFoundry, a community for hardware startups & creative makers that connects to the startup ecosystem such as an accelerator program “Monozukuri Bootcamp”, a seed fund “Shisaku Fund” and global manufacturing resources, by partnering with Makers Boot Camp.
Previously, Nob served as an executive member of Six Apart, a pioneer of the blogging movement in early 2000s and made Movable Type a leading web platform.
Prior to Six Apart, he co-founded a startup that builds a multiplayer mobile role-playing location-based game platform in 2001 while he was studying at the business school at Carnegie Mellon and Entrepreneurial Summer School at London Business School.
Before joining Carnegie Mellon, Nob was engaged in business development at Nikkei’s publication company to launch Japanese Edition of MIT Technology Review, working closely with the MIT community.
At Nikkei, Nob started his business career as Staff Editor contributing to Nikkei Computer Magazine, evangelizing the power of the Internet with its early adopters including Joi Ito, then-current evangelist of the Internet and today known as Executive Director of MIT Media Lab. Nob was based in Tokyo but spent lots of time in the SF Bay area from Nikkei’s office in Santa Clara, CA.
Nob received an MBA in Entrepreneurship with Distinction from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002, where his team represented the school to participate in business plan competitions. He graduated from the University of Tokyo with a B.S. in Engineering in 1994.
Nob is currently Founder and GM of Materials Engineering at FabFoundry. Founded in New York City, FabFoundry is a platform for hardware startups to complete theirfirst production by connecting a collective of resources that offer access to vital resources forcontemporary, urban hardware startups such as creative excellence, technical consultation,design optimization for production, Silicon-Valley style funding, legal service and networking,locally and globally.
